1:1 tools for managers
Structured 1:1 templates, a runner for the session, and private notes for follow-up.
BetterUs includes a lightweight 1:1 management layer built into the admin panel. It's a prompt layer that makes sure the important things actually get covered.
The 1:1 templates
At /admin/manager/one-on-ones, you'll find a library of structured 1:1 templates covering: standard weekly check-in, monthly development conversation, quarterly career discussion, performance conversations, return from leave, and wellbeing check-in (for watch list members).
Running a 1:1
During a 1:1, open the 1:1 runner at /admin/manager/one-on-ones/[template]. It walks you through the question sequence, lets you add notes in real time, and surfaces relevant data (the member's check-in trend, recent recognitions) as context.
Private notes
After each 1:1, log your notes at /admin/team/[member]/1on1. These are visible only to you, never shown to the member, saved with a timestamp, and searchable across your 1:1 history for that person.
The manager playbook
/admin/manager/playbook contains a growing library of short guides on specific situations — giving feedback on a public miss, holding space for someone who's struggling, and more.
Top tips
Make the most of this feature
- 1
Do your 1:1 notes immediately after the conversation — the detail you think you'll remember, you won't.
- 2
Check the member's check-in trend before every 1:1 — it often surfaces something worth asking about.
- 3
The wellbeing check-in template is the most important one. Use it whenever someone is on the watch list.
