The deal, in plain English.
You agreed to these terms when you signed up. They're the ground rules for using BetterUs Workplace. We've kept them short and readable — the legalese version is the same content, just dressed differently.

1. The agreement
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) form a contract between you and The School of Play Pty Ltd (“BetterUs”, “we”, “us”), an Australian company. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you're signing up on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you're authorised to bind that organisation.
2. The service
BetterUs Workplace is a workplace wellbeing product — a daily check-in, recognition wall, sparks economy, live team games, and admin tools for understanding pack culture. We deliver it as a software-as-a-service (SaaS) accessed via the web and our iOS app.
We continuously improve the service. Features may change, evolve, or be replaced. We'll give 30 days' notice via email before removing any feature your plan depends on.
3. Your account
You're responsible for keeping your account credentials secure. Tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorised access. You must be at least 16 years old to use the service. One human, one account.
Pack admins can invite, manage, and remove packmates. If you're a packmate, your admin set up the workspace and accepted these Terms on its behalf — but you have full personal data rights as set out in our Privacy Policy.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the service to harass, bully, harm, or discriminate.
- Upload illegal, infringing, or malicious content.
- Attempt to break, reverse-engineer, or scrape the service.
- Resell or sublicense access without our written agreement.
- Use the service to compete with us by building a copycat.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules. Where reasonable, we'll warn first and give you a chance to fix it.
5. Pricing + billing
All prices are in Australian dollars (AUD) unless stated. The tier you sign up for covers up to a maximum number of packmates — see /pricing.
Free trial — 14 days from sign-up. No card required for the trial portion. You can cancel any time during the trial without being charged.
Subscriptions — billed monthly or annually depending on your plan. Annual plans are paid up-front and renew automatically each year. Monthly plans renew each month.
Refunds— annual plans: pro-rata refund for the unused portion if you cancel within the first 30 days. Monthly plans: no refund for the current month, but cancellation prevents the next renewal. We'll always honour Australian Consumer Law where it gives you stronger rights than these Terms.
Tax — prices are GST-exclusive. GST is added at checkout for Australian customers.
6. Cancellation
You can cancel at any time from your billing settings or by emailing us. Your subscription stays active until the end of the current billing period. After cancellation, your packmates keep their data — they can join a new workspace and bring it with them via the export tool.
7. Your data
You own the content and data you put into BetterUs. We use it only to operate and improve the service, as set out in our Privacy Policy. We don't sell data, ever.
For our part, you grant us a non-exclusive licence to host, copy, transmit and display your content as needed to deliver the service to you and your pack. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account.
8. Confidentiality
Each side agrees to keep the other's confidential information confidential, with reasonable care. This applies to business information shared while using the service — packmate-level data is governed by the Privacy Policy.
9. Service availability
We aim for 99.5% monthly uptime. If we miss it materially, Enterprise customers with a service-level agreement get service credits as set out in their SLA. For other plans, the service is provided “as is” without an uptime guarantee — but we work hard to be reliable.
Planned maintenance: we give 48 hours' notice for anything that requires downtime. Emergency maintenance: we move as fast as we can and tell you what happened afterward.
10. Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms is limited to the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
We're not liable for indirect, consequential, or loss-of-profit damages. Nothing in these Terms limits non-excludable rights you may have under the Australian Consumer Law or equivalent statutes in your country.
11. Indemnity
You'll defend and indemnify us against third-party claims arising from your misuse of the service or breach of these Terms. We'll do the same for you against claims that the service itself infringes a third party's intellectual property rights.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia. Disputes will be heard in the courts of Victoria, unless another jurisdiction is required by law.
13. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms over time. Material changes are announced via email at least 30 days before they take effect, and you'll see a banner in the app. Continuing to use the service after the effective date counts as acceptance. If you don't agree, cancel your account before the new Terms apply.
